Just once, Billy would love to be picked first for the school football team-instead of last. But here he is, sitting next to Stinky Carmichael on the sidelines. Billy just can't believe that his being a bit overweight is as objectionable as Stinky's foul breath. After all, Stinky could clean his teeth!

Billy knows that all the kids call him Blubberguts, but when his best friend, Johnny, the team captain, almost blurts out his nickname too, that's the last straw. After school, Johnny comes over to apologize and when he boots a ball to Billy, Billy blocks it. Johnny tries it again, and soon Billy has blocked the ball every time. Johnny gets an idea. The next time the team is chosen, he picks Billy for goalie. And, despite the coach's misgivings, Billy takes the opportunity and really goes for it. Thanks to Billy's hidden talents, the team wins the match.

Life for Billy just could not get any better!
